The 407th was very close to Antwerp. I remember my father in law telling me that he and a friend were going "to town' to take in a movie at a popular theater in aNTWERP. Anyway at the last minute they decided not to go. anyway in the mean time a V2 rocket made a direct hit on the theater causing major damage andkilling about 500 peopel. He said he saw the carnage, the bodies..........he could not talk about it any more.................

I thought that the AA units around Antwerp were mostly US.

I recently bought a box of miscellaneous stuff at an estate sale that contained a plaque from WW 2 given to soldiers of the 3521st Ordnance MAM Company by the city of Antwerp for their service in the port of Antwerp from Oct 7 44 to Mar. 30 45 while the port was under continuous air and V-weapon attacks. It is a nice framed under glass award measuring about 15" by 11" by 1" thick given to a named individual soldier. I can't understand why people would throw away their family history this way. I would like to give it to whoever is willing to pay the postage to get it. I'll be happy to send a pic to your email address. Contact me at mlydgy24171@yahoo.com.

My dad, Cpl. Carl F. Roberts was in 283rd Port Company assembled at Ft. Myles Standish, summer 1943, and worked at the Port of Boston & Charlestown, MA.
They were attached to the 487th Port Battalion in England (or Wales?) in Apr 1944.
The rest of 487th (184-187 Port Co.) were assembled earlier in Indiantown Gap, Indiana

He was wounded at Antwerp in early 1945, but did make it to Brussels & Paris at some point.
I don't think he was advanced to Bremerhaven

Unfortnately he died of cancer related to his wounds in May 1947.

My father was at Camp Tophat. I have a file of information about the camp that was put together by the men who attended an annual reunion. My father has passed but if I can find the file I will share it with you.
