    urqh,

"Thats interesting. Why is he your least favourite? Would you rate him higher though than Bennet?"

Bennet was not a Field Marshall. Blamey is the only Australian to attain that rank. He did not deserve it, and I doubt that his troops would disagree. His lack of knowledge and understanding of the task at Kokoda and its' enormous handicaps, was disgraceful.

Bennet got what he deserved when he deserted his troops, and returned to Australia

    - NOTHING!

    John,

Fair enough Ozjohn, I did sort of make out that generals and Fm's both mean very little to me...not in the knowledge sense but of the cant be bothered sense.

Dont want to start a thread in a thread, understand Blamey from your response, but I would hazard that Bennet was used as an example to others to come at that early stage of Japanese attack. My view..you know better probably but from a none partisan spot, I think he did right to get back. What could he do by staying. Then again what did they let him do afterwards. I cirisis of concience he had to face I would have thought, rather than one of fear.

    urqh,

AFAIK, Bennet was not given any military appointment after his return, though I would have appointed him Chief Cleaner - Other Ranks Latrines, in Alice Springs!

Understood John....Not meant to demean in any way, just interested. Perhaps because he was Aussie and not Brit that I have different perceptions. Then again I dont think much of Percival. But think highly of Gort who lots wouldnt give the time of day. Each to their own.
Dont want to hijack thread but interesting none the less. Cheers

Albert (smiling) Kesselring, tactical manuvers and anticipation on the battlefield second to none in my humble opinion.

Not at all you assume that just by my profile and my answers. I could tell you that I held Georgy Zhukov in high regard because of his tactics (A Marshal I grant you not a field Marshal)

Semantics is the study of meanings. I still do not know what the diference between the meaning of Marshal and the meaning of Field Marshal is.

    The meanings being different!

A German Field Marshal is Higher than a Soviet Marshal because the in the Soviet Army the Chief Marshal is higher than the Marshal of the Soviet Union.

All right, all right, I understand. No problem, suit yourself. I'm leaving this thread as it has already outlived it's usefullness. You just confirmed my suspicion that it would be useless talking to you.

Blimey, the guy only asked a question. He never declared his politics or service record.

His first response was Rundstedt by the way. Lets not hang him yet. Not before I get shot at stake anyway. And I want a blindfold.
