A John Wayne movie fact: John Wayne never NEVER in any movie, never pulled the pin of a HANDGRENADE with his teeth. In fact--the person who is responsible for the public blaming John Wayne for his blunder is also another one of my all-time favorite actors--He is: Anthony Quinn. Anthony Quinn in the movie: "Back To Bataan" pulled the pin from a grenade with his teeth--not John Wayne.

Thats the Ultimate Movie Marathon. And if you aint guessed it--I have all of these on tape and several on DVD.
Of course the next question... Ever tried to watch the movies non-stop...?? Don´t tell me you did...!
Nah--my backside would get too sore from all the sitting. I would have to watch them in blocks of no more than 3-4 hrs--so I can get up and go for a walk in the neighborhood--come back and watch some more.
Last night I just bought two new John Wayne Western Movies. They were the two that I gre up watching the most as these were played on regular network TV every so often, and this is my pre-cable TV days. Big Jake & Rio Lobo. Currently watching Big Jake which has some added extra scenes that I have never seen before. The character of James McCandles, son of Jacob McCandles and played by John Waynes real life son Patrick Wayne. OK, during the kiddnappers ambush of the 10 Texas Rangers riding in automobiles, during this ambush--apparently James didn't keep his butt down and it got filled with some buckshot. Well, the scenes I never saw before until last night, had James bad-talking his father by starting the conversation with: "If you ask me, Thats a nasty habit....father." ((His father was chewing tobacco)) Jacob: "Nobody asked you." The conversation went on and got worse. Jacob was insulted at something James said so hi spit a hunk of tobacco juice into James's eye which caused him to fall backwards to the ground. Jacob: "Whats wrong with your leg? you've been favoring it all day?" James: "Nothings wrong with my leg, I only got a little buckshot--thats all." Jacob: "Come here. Since you can't keep your butt down" James: "What are you going to do?" Jacob: "Dig them out." With James lying on the ground and the father sitting on him ready to begin the operation. James says: "How about a swig of Whiskey!" Jacob: "Good idea--Michael hand me a bottle of Whiskey." Jacob takes a swig as James expects him to give him the bottle, but instead, pours some Whiskey onto the area on his butt that had the buckshot injuries. James: "YEEEEEEOOOWWWWWWW!!!" Jacob: "that ought to teach you to keep your butt down when getting into a gunfight!" I just love seeing the movie as it originally was released to the theaters--uncut. For those of you here who like Westerns--these are being sold at Wal-mart for about $15.00 each.
Which movie stars Patrick Wayne (his son) and Robert Mitchum? Rio Lobo or Rio Bravo? End of the civil war........
Hi Wilconqr--slight correction on the Mitchum mentioned. Christopher Mitchum played in Big Jake as Waynes son Michael McCandles--also brother to James. Chris Mitchum is Robert Mitchums son. He also played with John Wayne in Rio Lobo as a Confederate Sergeant who was in Captain Pierre Cardona's (Jorge Rivero) command. Big Jake also starred the son of another favorite actor of mine: Pedro Armendariez, he was Pedro Armendariez Jr. He got killed in a gunfight in aSaloon by "James" P. Wayne--when he and a buddy tried to pick a fight with him--James shot both with his Bergman 1911 Auto pistol. Now Robert Mitchum did play in El Dorado opposite of John Wayne. He was also in The Longest Day with John Wayne.
The Longest Day-umh...... Didn't that one have an all-star cast? a young Sean Connery perhaps? Also, hard to believe that John Wayne, a.k.a. Marrion Morisson, is from the barren state of Iowa isn't it? Is it gettin' hot dwn there yet? could use some rain here. I can't stand the summer!
Hi Wilconqr: Yep--The Longest Day had an all star cast. I plan on ordering the DVD soon--I NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED more John Wayne. Yep and it did have a younger Sean Connery--as the British soldier with a Bren. Yep it is almost difficult to believe that he was a Yankee. Whats even more difficult to believe at times is-- Roy Rogers (Leonard Slye) was actually born in New York. It's been VERy hot and VERY humid and VERY miserable here for almost 2 months now. I HATE summers here in Texas. If i'm not mistaken--I think you get your fair share of high humidity too? So I think you know exactly where I come from when I say I can't stand summer here. I'm starting to sweat just thinking about it. I sure can hardly wait untill we get our next cold front in--which will most likely be a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong 5 or so months away
Carl the longest day...you know it has two versions now...One original black and white, and there is also a colourised versiion now. The scenes are all still same, dialogues unchanged but eerie to watch first the black and white version and then to see colour version...
Hi Urgh--thanks for the info--I had not known there is a colorized version. I'll be sticking with the Black & White version though. Doing so makes me feel more like i'm ther at that time. Colorized only makes me feel that it is now the presant--instead of the past. As you might be able to tell--I love black and white movies. Don't get me wrong--I love color movies as well but, if one is filmed in B&W--it needs to stay that way.
Has anyone ever seen that Marlon Brando b/w movie where he plays a German officer "The Lion something or another......." And oh yeah, that one with Kirk Douglas as a French officer in WW1 where he defends three men accused of cowardice, also b/w?????? How about Bogard in "Three Graves to Cairo?"
That's 'The Young Lions' (1958) based on the Irwin Shaw novel and starring Brando, Dean Martin and Monty Clift ( plus Maximilian Schell & Lee Van Cleef ). A classic movie which I haven't seen for ages. The Kirk Douglas one is 'Paths Of Glory'....
Yep--i've seen The Young Lions and Paths of Glory. Both are excellent movies. Oh and Maximilian Schell plays Brando's Commanding Officer.
