Wanna bet? ;-D You ought to give Duke a bit more of a chance and check him out watching more fo hsi 1930s and 1940s stuff. You will be amazed. The only warning ill give is to skip his: The Conquerer movie, everyone is entitled to a bomb, and that was Dukes bomb ;-))
Great Eli Wallach pics. He was great in Genghis Kahn and also these Pasta Westerns. Its also great that he is still going on strong making appearances and such, and hes over 90.
Great El Dorado, Rio Bravo, Fort Apache, Stagecoach and Red River shots. Were there ANY Westerns out there that arent Duke Westerns?
Ray ,15 years younger is not that much , we have the same taste of movies and that includes Carl too ,man I love the ratpack and my laptop is filled up with music from Dean Martin,Frank Sinatra,Johnny Cash Sammy Davis jr , Frankie Laine and so on ,I did not want so say this before ,but the first movie I saw in my life was in 1968 on christmas eve ,six years old and an unckle of mine played it on a silverscreen and 8mm projector without sound that movie was "the charge of the light brigade" so I don't need to tell you what Errol Flyn means to me,most seen pic by me is the sea hawk ,the best actor of his time for the romantic scenes this is the pic that I wanted to share in the previous thread and this, ladies and gentleman, is my ultimate war movie
the best of what the silver screen had to offer..he was a true ladies man..you have a great choice in actors, pierre..
my great grandfather served 4 years in the big war and not only does the movie remind me of his absolute fantastic personality but I regard this as one of the best war movie ever made ,Kirk Douglas is just outstanding in his performance, the (real) story behind the movie , the french executed a lot of their own men and than the girl every time she sings I am over and done, look at the faces of the french soldiers when she sings with their moustaches they look like real 14-18 troops ,this movie ,a total MASTERPIECE the only remaining pic of my great grandfather(on the left ) taken on the front at the YZER river the man on the right is I believe a french soldier
darn Ray I always wondered what happend to Festus ? gunsmoke I just loved it ,marshall Dillon man where is the time? some more idols of my youth
All are great. I too have a shot of McQueen and Brynner (thanks to Bills Generositey) that is of them in: The Magnificent Seven. I think its when they first confront the Mexican Bandit leader (Eli Wallach) but not sure? Anyway, these and the Paths of Glory pics are simply fantastic. I dont have any from that Kirk Douglas movie yet but the more I see of them here, the more I want to find and buy some.
Hi Ray, Pierre, Ray, Great "Sands" pic, I havent seen that one before but ive seen others like the behind-the-scenes-shot that one is. Hi Pierre, I agree, Paths of Glory is a must have-which I do have on DvD but have not watched it for about 2 years now. I love that movie. What I dont have are any movie stills or lobby cards and such and I want some ;-)) The three Prisoners being executed are: Joe Turckel, (the one tied to the stretcher) Timothy Carey (the crybaby) and Ralph Meeker (the Corporal. Have any of you guys noticed at least in this movie, at how much Ralph Meeker not only LOOKS like Vic Morrow as he appeared in COMBAT, but also how much he sounds like him too. PS, Bert Freed, was the bearded French Sergeant, George Macready was the Division commander in which these three "examples of cowardice" were from and last but not least, Adolphe Menjou was the General that Kirk Douglas went to to try to get these men spared.
