^John Woo should just stick to making action/kung fu films.

I wanted to splash iodine into my eyes after seeing this one:
    Casablanca Express (1989)
    Great concept. P*** poor execution.

    I apologize for the bump.

I've not even heard of that turkey, Phantom. It was rated 3.6 in IMDB.

Lucky you. It was in this box set of war films (You know, the kind of set you see in the bargain bin at Wal Mart) my parents gave me for Christmas a few years ago.

I thought of that. I have heard of Kmart type stores in America that are open 24 hrs and it is like a woolworths, kmart in one, pretty much everthing you want is in there, so I have heard.

Yes, Walmart took the Kmart model and expanded upon it....

    .... they're a lot bigger and a lot worse.

To our Aussie friends. Wal-Mart is the worlds largest employer. I shop there-but only if I can't get what I need elsewhere-which is becoming too common of a thing.

Like them or hate them-I can't stand the place but, being it's either get something I need-or do without-I have to shop there.

The thing about Wal-Mart that I really hate is, what they have become since the "old man Walton" passed away ten or so years ago. Now that his five multi-billionnair children are running the joint, Wal_Mart has become one of the most vile of businesses ever. Meaning that mainly because of Wal_mart-many many thousands of "Mon-n-Pop" stores are out of business as they can't match Wal_Marts "low" prices.

Here is one typical reason why Wal-Mart has low prices. Almost everything that Wal_Mart sells, is made in China. That's fine and dandy but-that is at the expense of those thousands of American businesses, being put or forced out of business.

You can find stories about Wal-Mart if you Google: "Wal-Mart complaints."

There is now only one manufacturer of TV sets still in the USA. I forget what State they are located in-perhaps Kentucky??? They won a multi-million dollar law suit against Wal-Mart, a few years ago , for "Unfair Trade Practices." And VERY goog for them and here is why:

As most anyone who knows anything about Wal-Mart knows, knows about their China Manufacturing Operations. The average W-M factory worker in China makes about .27 cents per hour-making most of the goods that W-M sells on their shelves. Well, Wal-Mart got their hands into the manufacturing and selling of Televisions. SO, that Company here in the USA makes a TV set that they have to sell at $400.00 to make any money, but at the same time, W-M has the same size set made and sells them for $200.00-knowing that that company here in the USA cannot match that price.

Well, said American Company sues successfully, W-M and now W-M has to sell their Chinese made TV sets for $400.00 instead of $200.00.

Another case in point of Wal-Mart and their unfair trade practices-which is actually legal is:

The company that makes Rubbermaid products, nolonger is able to sell their products in Wal-Mart (at least no longer on their shelves in the stores in my area) and the reason is because they (Rubbermaid) a few years ago, told Wal-Mart that they wanted to raise the price of their product because the price for materials in making their products had gone up. Well, Wal-Mart said-no-to the price hike. Rubbermaid protested their (Wal-Marts) decision to not allow them to raise the prices on their products in order to make up for costs in their materials needed.

Because Rubbermaid protested Wal-Marts decision to not allow them to raise their prices, they said "Either remain at the prices we (Wal-Mart) want to sell your product at, or we (Wal-Mart) will not allow you to sell your (Rubbermaid) product, on our (Wal-Marts) shelves. Well, the Rubbermaid company had no choice, tried to sue W-M and lost. So now, as "punishment" against Rubbermaid, W-M told them they will no longer allow them to sell their products on their shelves. The only loser was Rubbermaid.

Anyway, I don't know if the following if proven fact or not but, I heard (don't remember where?) that Wal-Mart tried to open stores in various locations in England. I also heard that they were not allowed to do so-based on their business practices. I know that W-M is in various places in Germany and I heard that that was only because they were to carry German and European made goods.

I bought a movie recently called "Air Force". A B-17 flies to Hawaii the day of the Pearl Harbor attack, then the next day flies non stop, to the Phillipines. Shortly afterwards, it starts to return to Hawaii, but crash lands on Guam, the crew repairs the plane, and flies back to Hawaii.

On slate for tonight are TWO Charlton Heston Westerns. The Far Country and Three Violent Men. These Westerns also have Fred MacMurray and some other notables in them. After these, more episodes from seasons 3 & 4 of: Daniel Boone.

Pearl Harbor would have to be up there. It look very good physically but the actual story and accuracy was off and got irritating, in the top 10 worst defiantly.

I'm surprised that, aside from one little mention I found, that no-one has brought up "The Last Drop", although perhaps it's too terrible to think about? I stupidly bought the damn thing on DVD during a quiet weekend and soon wished I hadn't. A plot that meanders all over the place but seemingly has something to do with Market Garden. A scene where some American paratroopers raid and successfully capture an important Dutch river bridge...which looks more like something you'd use to stroll over an English stream. It also features quite possibly the worst acting in a war film ever, despite having "big names" like Michael Madsen (who looks completely out of place here).

It's also full of wonderful uniform howlers The British airborne Captain (who thankfully gets shot quite early on, and I don't know what his accent was supposed to be, but it wasn't British) is wearing what seems to be a battledress fashioned out of a sandbag, while the rest of his unit all wear divisional and regimental insignia from anything but the 1st Airborne Division And the sniper bloke is wearing a 3rd Division patch upside down.

I think those of you that haven't seen it should try to purely for a laugh and to wonder how such tripe got made. I don't think any other film can beat it in the worst war film stakes.

I have to agree with the Pearl Harbor consensus.. I was squirming in my seat the whole time.

I actually really like A Thin Red Line. I dont really consider it a "war" movie though. It incidentally took place in the midst of a battle but it is more of an interesting and thought provoking study of the psychology of men at war.
