Stefan, how did you guess I'm from manchester (well just outside stockport)? I know what you mean, part of me wanted to be there too, I think the reason for it is that it is a sence of asventure, as normal civi life is quite boring and the same. Can you also let me know if you get any replies from the 12 SS vets as I'm writing to a lot of RKT's and to an SS & FJ vet who live in the uk at the moment. Urqhi I didn't think they had jobs in liverpool? as we sing at the football 'you'll never see a scouser get a job' (just kinding mate) Phil
Sure, I will make any information I get available as soon as possible. As for the Manchester thing, I will never forget the day my mate got a Manc GF, he spent the next day insisting that 'she aint a scally-manc...'
Camz, welcome to the forums. I don't think I have welcomed you before. Why would the Chinese do that!?
i would die for England any time! i would die for my country if i was a e nashinality....... except Japan and russia in WW2 i bet u can guess why, lol
Swedish soldiers doesn't get the oppurtunity to serve in foreign countries very often. Right now a swedish elite group serves as a peace keeping force in Kongo, for the UN. But i can't say that soldiers have served in swedish uniforms in another country in wartimes since the 19th sentury. If i get tired of the army when i have served the demanded time (shall join in the future) maybe i join the UN as a peace keeping "soldier". You never know. Long live our king, Carl XVI Gustaf. "Länge leve vår konung, Carl XVI Gustaf."
Munken The UN doesn't have a permanent peacekeeping force. But some experts believe that in the future the UN may hire mercanaries or PMC's(Sandline, KMS, KAS, Defense Systems ltd., and other companies) to fulfill peacekeeping duties. Also I believe that the men in these units were former Special Forces. The exception would be Executive Outcomes(now disbanded) I believe they hired soldiers from the South African army. [ 13. I've always liked that quote from Patton - "you don't win wars by dying for your country, you win wars by making the other guy die for his country."
I don't think many of us here have to worry about dieing for our countries. Britain at least has not been under any threat to its exsistance since WW2. My 4 and and half years in Ulster were not to protect my country. Bosnia was no threat to my country, but i still did two tours. And i still refuse to believe that Iraq was ever a threat. So, as i am serving there now, if i get killed, have i died for my country. No, i have not. The question should not be are you ready to die for your country, but are you ready to die for your countries policies.
Hello Bish , nice to know you get some time and availability to access the net. Got a tan yet? Be lucky No.9
My arms and face are burnt to hell. As for the rest of me, when i ain't OTG, i'm trying to hide from the sun. I hate it. Can't wait to get home to rain and clouds.
You could always try to join the SAS if you're british. Then you could be ordered to do some inofficial operationsl...
Why don't you get the Northern Ireland game for your Playstation? [ 17. July 2003, 11:11 PM: Message edited by: No.9 ]
I think No 9 is referring to it may be a tad inaprorate to ask such a question, although Bish can speak for himself.
The question should not be are you ready to die for your country, but are you ready to die for your countries policies. Ah, But Bish when we are in, we dont get much of a chance to do otherwise do we? Its something if we are in the mob we have to live with. I didnt agree much with the rest of my oppos on attacking the Germans in Cologne, but hey they picked up the bottles first, I had to go along with it...Oh no sorry, that wasnt exactly a war, well it was close enough for me....
