It's not WWII, but "A Very Long Engagement" fits the ticket. Not only do you get a great war movie (WWI), I guarantee, you will have a VERY amorous girlfriend after you guys watch this. Casablanca also comes to mind, as does "From here to eternity, and my personal all time favorite; "A Time to love and a time to die". Oh man!! Are you kidding me?!? Pearl Harbor spews!! That movie should be buried underneath a toxic waste dump for all times, and Ben Afleck should be burnt in effigy on dec.7th for taking part in that monumental piece of cheese.
Brilliant! I will have to be on the look out for those as well. I appreciate the additional posts... my list is still growing. I think she will enjoy these. We plan on watching The Atonement on Friday night so I will let you guys know how that goes. Thanks for the posts!
Maybe "The Americanization of Emily" would be a good choice. Julie Andrews is "Emily" in this one. Without going over to imdb to confirm , I think that James Garner is the one trying to do the "Americanizing." This one had chick flick wrote all over it.
Shining Through (Michael Douglas, Melanie Griffith) Memphis Belle (it's not a chick flick but there's a hangar dance and all the clean cut Air Corps guys might interest her)
when you think about it, there is quite alot of films that could be described as chick flicks! .......many more than i taught
Hi Ike, I think it is? I haven't seen even part of the movie since it was originally aired-but I think this is that movie. If im not mistaken but I think Kristy McNichol-(SP?) was the "girl" who fell in love with her German Soldier???
WWII Chick Flicks? well now, DRESDEN jumps into my mind. English Bomberpilot and a German Nurse start a romance some nights before the Dresden Bombing Raid. I could imagine that the mojority of women, will L O V E this movie. And The English Patient is definatly a must. Regards Kruska
Thanks for the recent posts. This thread has really taken off. There are a ton of movies out there. Like Andy said, there are a lot of WWII movies that fall in this category. She liked Pearl Harbor. It was good but kind of long. If you have any more in mind let us know. These are all great. I cant pick them all up at once though. It would cost me a fortune lol. Dvds are expensive here in NZ
Do they have Netflix down there? If so, give it a try. I did and it's worth it. I dropped all the premium channels but kept basic and expanded basic cable. I fill in the void with netflix movies.
I'm not sure, I will have to see if they do. Hopefully they have something similar to it if they don't have netflix, I will ask around. Right now we have the "basic cable hookup" which has a whole 3 channels. One channel for news, another for local tv shows, and another that shows movies every now and then but the connection is terrible so they end up being in color for half the movie and black and white for the other half.
If you're going to watch Black Book I hope your girl is broad-minded. Being a Dutch movie there are a few "nudey-rudey" bits. In particular the scene where the Jewish heroine dyes her hair blonde to appear Aryan (Hint: in those days Brazilian meant people from South America).
Hannover Street is a WW2 themed chick flick I believe. Harrison Ford is in that one. Never saw it, just remember some friends say that they saw it and didn't like it because of the "chick flickness" of it....
Hi A/ Good choice. Same thing can be said about "The War Lover" with Steven McQueen. Currently and earlier today-watched Midway as well as a great Doc on War Movies master: Sam Fuller. Tomorrow will be my tribute to Sam Fuller by watching both: the Big Red One and Fixed Bayonets. I think i'll see if: The Steel Helmet, is available on DvD?
Hello Carl, ehmm...., I am truly a great fan of Steve McQueen, but I was never aware about a movie called "The War Lover", thanks and I think I need to do some googleing afterwards. Regards Kruska
Hello A-58, Thanks for the tip, I googled at Wicki and I have to admit I really doubted C. Evans on that one. But what can I say; exept "I bow deeply to you Carl" again you amaze me with your knowledge in regards to warmovies - and certainly not only on this topic. Regards Kruska
Hi my friend-yep and I THINK it may be out on DvD as well. I saw it once about 20 years ago and don't remember much about it except that he was a bomber pilot. I THINK Robert Wagner or someone like him? is also in this movie. Heres a tid bit for you-I am a big Steve McQueen fan but the tidbit is-that the http://www.ww2f.com/wwii-films-tv/www.dukewayne.com website is only there as a site about Duke-only because the sites owner-a Gent by the name of Kevin-tossed a coin in order to choose who the site was going to be build around. The two names he chose were john Wayne, and the other was Steve McQueen. John Wayne won out-thanks to a coin toss ;-))
How about Australia. The War does not factor into much of the film and it has a lot of inaccuracies, but I really enjoyed it today, as did my wife.
