Yes Steve-and you even gave his middle name!
I remember Martin mentioning him not too long ago-i didn't know he committed suicide though!
    Over to you now Steve

Carl-as a footnote-the only difference from Herr Schrijnen's story is the date-although I'm not too sure-did Remy kill any infantrymen??? Or was he just a tank-killer?

Remy was credited with killing appx 100 Russian Infantrymen in three days as well as knocking out 17 t-34s and JS1's.

These stories are VERY similar, and Remy was also stationed on the Leningrad Front--this is where he almost got courtmarshalled and kicked out of the Waffen SS, for sleeping through two of his watches. This was because he had partied with himself by drinking a large bottle of Vodka mixed with a weeks suger ration.

Carl, if possible it´d be nice to hear about Remy´s action on those killings as well. This Christen was a sturmmann at the time ( September 1941 at Loshny (?) battles ) in Totenkopf. He was the first from Waffen SS to get the Knight´s Cross, I think. Correct me if I´m wrong.

Anyway, this kind happened a couple of times. Even one Finn got his Mannerheim Cross with the same kind of fighting, he never had shot with a PAK and also the sights were gone, but he aimed through the barrell and killed 5-6 T34´s, just because he felt he could not just leave the place like that...Strange heroes!!

Martin : Must not be that far off your area, although I wouldnt refer to the 43rd Div as a NG unit, they get kind of finicky over that. :D

Hello Kai, I would give you full details on Remys actions but I dont have my books with me--they are in storage out of town somewhere. These two stories though are almost exactly alike--similar numbers of tanks destroyed and russians killed.

Remy was #1 Gesthutz on his PAK. He always places his PAK in a Kopfstellung. He and his crew first placed their zeltbahns on the ground and than place their PAK on the zeltbahns. This was done as a sort of camouflage--meaning--whenever they fired their PAK, there would be no dustclouds because of the zeltbahns placed under their PAK. They could be out in the open and not seenby the enemy untill they were almost exacly on top of them.

I dont know who the first was to get the KC, Timo can better answer that question than myself. [IMG]

Trying hard to think of a question which'll be popular with the Forum.... I know ! A JOCHEN PEIPER question !!

    Battle of the Bulge 1944.
Exactly where , and in which building ( still there today ) was Peiper when reputedly told by Gustav Knittel that 'They killed a few at the crossroads back there '. And what was he doing there ? ;)

Argh! Peiper questions! I cannot help myself I must try to answer...

On Devil´s adjutant I found this:
Four P-47´s of 387th squadron bombed motor transport north of Stavelot and the RAF Typhoons claimed to have struck half-trucks north of the town on 18th of December ( between 1445 and 1515 hours ). German anti-aircraft was very effective as one P-47 was shot down and eight others damaged.
During these air attacks Peiper himself took cover in an old concrete bunker just to the west of the Cheneux bridge. This was opposite the Dumont farm, which received a direct hit. It was in this bunker and during the air strike that Knittel eventually met up with Peiper.

This is referred to being in Knittle´s statement at Landsberg/Lech 15 Mar 1948.

Peiper himself was forced to go north as "the Ambleve crossing had gone and had no alternative but to turn north to La Gleize and hope to rejoin N-23 further west beyond Haute Bodeux "

I didn´t find the discussion between the two but if there was more to it I´d be happy to hear it if possible.Well, if this is the part you were looking for.. ;)

Knittel indeed mentions this meeting on page 2 of his statement dated Landsberg am Lech, 15.3.48

However is is still doubtfull the meeting actually took place as described. We checked all info about Knittels movements on that day and its almost impossible that he moved to Peiper and back to Stavelot within the given time frame and then back to La Gleize. I'll post more detailed info about the time frame soon.

( I've always thought that the story sounded a little too 'nice' - that's why I said 'reputedly' in the question ! ) [IMG]

    Nobody?
Ok, I´ll go for it again.

The movie " green berets" is a well known movie by John Wayne. Who is the person in real life he´s acting to be, and when and where did the real person die?

    Here´s some clues:
He used to be in the waffen SS, and later on signed for the US army. Died in the 1960´s in Vietnam in a chopper crash...
    Quite a war hero! [IMG]
