That is Correct! And I thought I had a good one. Volunteer legion of Indians founded by the Indian nationalist leader Subhas Chandra Bose. Bose's dream was to raise an German-sponsored Indian Legion that would be in the vanguard of the German advances in the Caucasus. The Indian Legion would then push on through Persia, Afghanistan and onward to liberate their homeland.

The legion reached a total compliment off 3,500. It was a polyglot force of diverse ethnic groups from the Indian subcontinent - Sikhs, Muslims, Marathas, Jats, etc.

The Indische Freiwilligen Legion (transferred to the Waffen-SS in 1944) never did fulfil the martial dreams of its founder, but was instead regulated to garrison duty and to serve as poster unit for propaganda of questionable value and effect.

Most senior German military leaders scoffed at the idea of the Indian Legion. Hitler's disdain for the unit and his racist views are apparent with his famous quote "If they were given the task of turning prayer wheels then they would be the most tireless soldiers in the world!"
    Your turn

    The Baron Strikes again!

    my new question is:
This Man was posthumously awarded the medal of honor for his actions the first night after the landings at red beach at leyte in 1944.

Give his name, rank and reason he was awarsed the medal, you can ask for more hints.

My guess: Capt Francis B. Wai; 34th Inf Rgt, He landed with the 5th wave of troops and finding no officers still able to lead he took control and was instramental in securing the initial beachhead.

    G'day Otto

Maybe there should be a referee??
Panzerknacker's question was not answered but there must be some miscommunication on his questions answer. Which question goes first??
    Is Panzerknackers question still on??

    Halt!!

Ok, I guess Popski is one of the few people that actually read the thread. [IMG]

As far as I could tell, Panzerknacker had not yet declared a correct answer to his original destroyer question. The destroyer question is still open, and it has no answer.

Remember it is not enough to answer correctly. The member asking the question must "pass the torch" to you before you can ask your own question. :D [IMG]

BTW, Popsky, I love that Avatar, out of the 250 it is one of my top 10 favourites!

Glad we could straighten that up back to my question:
This Man was posthumously awarded the medal of honor for his actions the first night after the landings at red beach at leyte in 1944.

Give his name, rank and reason he was awarded the medal, you can ask for more hints.
