    Panzerknacker,Le Paradis lives in infamy but it wasn't where his funeral was (It was on the Eastern front....)

    In checking this I have come across two place names rather than just the one I had in mind,so I will accept either.Give you a clue,they are both in the Ukraine :D and both start with the letter O.....

    Well thank you all and here is the question.

    This person was born at Franfurt-am-oder on 14 September 1886. During WWI, he served in several staff posts and was retained in the Reichswehr afterwards. He developed an interest in mobile tactics and the tanks needed to implement them. By 1938, he had risen to the rank of major-general and was commander of the 1st light division based in Thuringia. He led the XVI Korps during the invasions of Poland and France. He led the 4th Panzergruppe in Barbarossa. he was relieved of command when he authorized a tactical retreat during the Russian counteroffensive and discharged from the Army.

    Who is he and what how did he meet his end?

    Generaloberst Erich Hoepner.

    He participated in the july plot against Hitler, he was arrested and hanged at Plötzensee prison on August 8th 1944.
