Thanks Mike. I read that book several years ago and had forgotten that factoid until you gave the court martial hint.

Prior to and during the Battle of Midway, there were only 4 US Flag Officers at sea in the Pacific. Name them.

Congresswoman Jeanette Rankin of Montana. She also voted against the DoW in 1917.

On the night of 12 July, 1943 a US force of cruisers and destroyers under Adm "Pug" Ainsworth fought a smaller Japanese force of a single cruiser and 5 destroyers commanded by Adm Shungi Isaki in the Battle of Kolombangara. The US lost 1 destroyer sunk and 3 cruisers badly damaged, while the Japanese lost one cruiser.

    What does Kolombangara translate into?

That didn't last very long (although I thought that it would)

My source said "King of Water". Water Lord sounds good enough to me.

    Your go.

For sure Slipdigit. They were supposed to keep on its axis of advance aided by tracer fire from antiaircraft guns firing on fixed lines and by the use of radio. These techniques were devleoped by the 8th Army in Libya, it worked in the trackless wasteland in the desert but did not help in northern france. They eventually went off track and ended up a fair ways away from their actual objective.
    ANYWAYS. Your go Slip

Here's some hints. He was not in the Pacific. He commanded a task group and killed himself ten days before an important operation.

Rear Admiral Timothy D. Moon, just before the invasion of Southern France.
Probably lamenting over the "mix-ups" involved with Operation Tiger, (escorts got in a fender bender and Di-Di ed) which led to the bushwhack & severe losses?
