I like that idea!!!!!! A group of Amerika Bombers flying from Norway carrying these massive bombs to reduce major cities to rubble. Bringing the allies to a screaming halt
But be sure to warn whoever you're going to bomb. Broadcast over radio and notify the Government of your intentions. Plead with them to clear the area. That way after the war no one will be able to criticize you or bring up war crimes against Humanity. And you will have to come up with a"Stealth" capability for your Amerika B-2's since they will know you're coming!
Would the Americans have had a form of air radar covering the US? I just thought up good idea too...one of these bombers will be attacking Halifax, NS...the city I'm living in now. Halifax was a major rally point for convoys and troop ships heading to Europe. It would be a total morale breaker if a major port city/convoy rally point was devastated.
Perhaps not so grand an idea, but possibly something aimed at Britain. Far easier to get there with a captured allied plane. Perhaps a small collection of B-17's cobbled together from shot down aircraft, A commando raid on the D-Day planning group with either a attempt to steal the plans or kill off important generals. No need for a 'device' just a strait up commando raid.
Hmm..good idea Belasar! These short stories are going to focus on the secretive KG 200, and they captured several Flying Fortresses and other allied aircraft. There's a lot of possibilities and these short stories are going to be a series! So perhaps a foiling the D-Day invasion could be one of those! Thanks for the suggestion!
You could have your 'B-17's' follow a returning bomber raid. The target could be FUSAG and Patton which was based in South-Eastern England. A sub-plot could be the risk of the ruse of FUSAG being blown by the raid. Pretending to being shot-up bombers returning home will help hide the fact that they are cobbled together.
FUSAG, First United States Army Goup. This was a ficticious formation that did not really exist. Patton was placed in 'command' of this Army Group which existed only on paper and though radio intercepts. It was understood by the Allies that Germany respected/feared Patton more than any other Western commander and they used this to mis-direct German attention away from Normandy and towards Pas de Calais. Patton was 'headquartered' in SE England, made many speeches in public about how he was ready to cross the channel and go kill the Hun. Many dummy trucks, tanks, planes and guns were placed in the open to be seen by German Reccon planes. Many radio stations were set up each signalling as if they were a 'division' preparing for D-Day. Alot of these never existed, others did exist but were elsewhere. Patton hated the assignment, but it largely fooled Germany.
Just had a strange thought....we all know that the US's entry into WWII came later after Pearl Harbor, but had Pearl Harbor would the US still have gotten involved? Or was the US in the war before Pearl?
Pretty big question...with a number of answers depending on what you think would happen next...The US certainly WANTED to get into the war...but couldnt find a way of getting public support, at least enough. Interestingly...with war with Japan looking more likely, most of America would have warned against a a"Second front" in Europe...they maybe would have concentrated on the Pacific...But a massive relief effort both military and civilian would have been initiated by the states...Germany would have began sinking the huge American fleets and drawn the US in anyway...My two cents.
Agreed CAC! Great reply no matter what had happened, the US would have been involved in the end. Whether it was Japan or Germany. The German Navy had some pretty intense battleships. The Scharnhorst seemed like a pretty heavy duty piece of equipment. Had she not sank, perhaps Hitler's big ships may have caused some real chaos.
