The local library has this book is it worth reading? Guessing its what the movie was based off of and I liked the movie just wish it was more detailed. Thinking the book will be what I'm looking for.

so have you read it? Is it worth the time?

The book is good, I recommend it. I covers the battle from start to finish and from both sides.

The movie was based more or less off of a single paragraph in the book.

If the movie and the book were not named the same, you never notice any connection between the two.

I enjoyed the book and the movie. For a novice like me, the book was perfect. The best way to put it is, the movie represents some of the book.

The book really has nothing to do with the movie. It's a good read, though ( IIRC it was the first book about Stalingrad which I read ) but it's now been overshadowed by Beevor's 'Stalingrad'.

Great - it won't spoil 'EATG' for you ; the style is different and IIRC some different details of the action are in each.....

I prefer Beevor's book but Enemy at the Gates still a good read. As for the movie, guess you can call it a book 'inspired' movie.

That is a good book, also, possibly better than EATG.

When you finish Stalingrad, consider reading When Titans Clashed by Glantz. It is easy to find and a good all in one of the Eastern Front.

I've always found descriptions of "Pavlov's House" in various books to be a much more interesting story than that of Zaitsev. The trouble with all "big picture" books is that you only get a little vignette of people like Pavlov or Zaitsev.

I remember Pavlov's House being epic in the book. Zaitzev was great too but Pavlov turning the house into a fortress and having the Germans come at him and his guys was a lot more thrilling. I just bought Beevor's Stalingrad but I think I will reread Enemy at the Gates. Really looking forward to completing Glantz's Trilogy on Stalingrad
